About Sir Padampat Singhania

Industrialist, Philanthropist, Visionary

Sir Padampat Singhania (1905–1979) was born into a distinguished merchant family of Kanpur with roots in Rajasthan. From a young age, he took charge of the family’s enterprises, helping establish J.K. Cotton Spinning & Weaving Mills under the spirit of the Swadeshi movement.

Through his vision and entrepreneurial strength, he transformed the J.K. Organization into a major industrial force in India. In 1943, he was knighted by the British and became widely known as “Sir Saheb.” He was also a signatory to the Constitution of India, reflecting his role in shaping the nation.

Beyond business, Sir Padampat devoted himself to education, healthcare, and social welfare, founding numerous institutions for public good. His legacy of service, leadership, and vision continues to inspire even after his passing in 1979.

In the 2024 All India Sir Padampat Singhania Memorial Invitational Pairs Bridge Tournament at Kamla Club, Kanpur, Gopinath Manna and Sandip Dutta (Maharashtra & West Bengal) surged from third to first place in the closing rounds, clinching the trophy and a Rs 68,000 prize by scoring 275.04 VPs. TC Pant and Rajesh Jain (Delhi) finished as first runners-up with 269.09 VPs, while Hemant Jalan and Ashish Malhotra (West Bengal) secured third place with 261.31 VPs, as intense competition saw rankings shift until the very end. The top thirteen pairs were awarded cash prizes and medals in a ceremony graced by CA V. P. Aditya, with organizers highlighting the events high standards and strong national participation.
